St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen

St. Francis Kitchen served its first meal on August 7, 1978 in the former Hotel Scranton.  Msgr. Constantine Siconolfi and eight volunteers provided a simple meal for 15 guests who were seated at a single table.  During that year the Kitchen progressed and began serving more meals with the help of many more volunteers.

Today the Kitchen serves over 78,000 meals a year and continues to respond to the call of the Beatitudes to FEED THE HUNGRY.  A hot, nutritious meal is
provided seven days a week, 365 days of the year,
to any guest who comes to our door.

Since the retirement of Msgr. Siconolfi in June of 2009, St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen has become a part of Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton.

Msgr. Joseph Kelly, M.S.W., executive director of CSS, and a dedicated Advisory Board ensure that the Kitchen continues in its mission of serving the
disadvantaged in the greater Scranton area.

The Kitchen’s annual cost of $450,000 is met by monetary donations, so donations of money are always needed.  However, our operation is also depends on donations of time and food.  St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen is most grateful to the many volunteers who donate their time and energy.  Furthermore, we are grateful to the many private and corporate donors who contribute food, thus allowing us daily to feed the hungry.
